Frequently asked questions

Why would my brand need a Concept Design Service?

Some brands need help developing their first product idea. Others have already created tech packs, sourced fabrics, sampled garments and gone into production — but the product still didn’t sell the way they expected.

That’s because knowing how to make a garment and knowing what garment is worth making are two different things.

If you want to build a fashion brand that feels distinctive, recognisable and harder to imitate, product ideas matter. There are more fashion brands than ever, which means simply launching another pair of jeans, corset or dress is rarely enough.

By Ideare specialises in the creative stage before technical development — helping brands identify stronger product ideas, more recognisable design details and clearer opportunities before money is invested into sampling and production.

For a newer brand, that might mean turning a basic idea into something more distinctive.

For an established brand, it might mean looking at what you’ve already launched and asking:

Why didn’t this product connect?

Was the design too familiar?

Did it lack a recognisable product code?

Was there a stronger opportunity the collection missed?

What should the brand create next instead?

We think beyond the expected — from silhouette and construction details to hardware, closures, pockets and proportion — so the product feels specific to your brand rather than interchangeable with everyone else’s.

Many brands already have access to manufacturers, technical designers and production teams.

The gap is often original product thinking.

That is where By Ideare comes in. We think of what your brand hasn’t — so you can move into technical development with a stronger reason for the product to exist in the first place.

How does the process work?

Once you’ve selected the service that best fits your project, you’ll complete a detailed creative brief telling us about your brand, vision, customer and what you’re looking to create.

You’ll then complete payment and receive your Client Agreement to review and sign.

Every service also includes an optional 30-minute Creative Consultation, giving you the opportunity to meet with us, talk through your brief in more detail, share your vision and discuss any additional context before the creative work begins.

Your project officially begins once your Client Agreement has been signed and your brief has been reviewed. Standard delivery is within 7–10 working days from project commencement.

You’ll then receive your initial concept direction and designs for review. Your included revision round gives you the opportunity to provide feedback and refine the selected direction before your final concept and presentation are delivered.

What happens after I receive my concept? Who creates the Technical Package?

By Ideare specialises in the creative concept and product direction stage rather than technical product development.

Once your final concept has been approved, the next stage is typically technical development, where the design is translated into a tech pack ready for sampling and manufacturing.

If you don’t already have a technical designer, we can introduce you to an independent tech pack specialist who can support you with the next stage of development. Alternatively, you’re completely welcome to use your own technical designer or manufacturer.

Any technical development is arranged separately and is not included within your By Ideare service unless otherwise stated.

What makes By Ideare different from a traditional Fashion Designer?

By Ideare focuses on the idea before the technical execution. We specialise in concept, product vision and creative direction: identifying what could make a garment more distinctive and developing the visual idea around it. We are not positioned as a tech-pack or manufacturing service. Our role is to help you answer, “What should this product actually be?” before the technical development begins.

How long does a project take?

For single-garment concept design projects, our standard turnaround time is 7 calendar days.

For collection concept designs, our standard turnaround time is 7-10 calendar days

Your project timeline begins once By Ideare has received everything required to begin the creative process. This includes your completed Project Brief, signed Client Agreement and full payment for the service.

If you choose to use your included 30-minute Creative Consultation, your project will begin after the consultation has taken place. Consultations are subject to calendar availability, so your project start date will be based on the consultation date you book — not necessarily the date of purchase.

For example, if you purchase your service and complete your brief and agreement on Monday, but book your consultation for Thursday, your 7-day turnaround will begin from Thursday once the consultation has been completed.

If you choose not to book a consultation, your 7-day turnaround will begin as soon as your completed Project Brief, signed Client Agreement and payment have all been received.

Any delay in submitting your Project Brief, signing your agreement, completing payment or attending a booked consultation may move your project start date and therefore your expected delivery date.

Once your initial concept has been delivered, any included revision feedback should be submitted within the agreed review period as one consolidated set of comments. Where a revision is required, revised work will usually be returned within 3 working days of receiving your complete feedback.

Collection projects, bespoke projects and larger creative partnerships may require longer timelines. Where this applies, your expected turnaround will be confirmed according to the scope of your project.

Can I choose whether AI-assisted visuals are included in my project?

Absolutely! AI-assisted visuals are completely optional.

Every By Ideare service is led by the creative concept itself and includes core deliverables such as hand-drawn fashion illustrations, design breakdowns, material and colour direction, selected variations and development notes.

Where appropriate, AI-assisted imagery may also be included to help bring the concept to life visually — for example, to show how the design could look on the body, explore proportion, or present the garment in a more photorealistic way.

These visuals are created to support the presentation of the concept; they do not replace the hand-drawn design work or the wider creative development behind the project.

If you would prefer your project to be delivered without any AI-assisted imagery, that is absolutely possible. Your concept can instead be presented using the hand-drawn front and back illustrations and the other standard design-development elements included within your service.

If you do not wish for AI-assisted visuals to be used, please let us know clearly within your Project Brief before creative development begins so this can be reflected in the scope of your project.
